Carburetor and Injection

Carburetor and Injection

Gas factory

For almost 100 years, ever since the first Harley-Davidson saw the light of day in a shed in Milwaukee, the ignitable mixture of air and fuel has been processed by a carburetor. A single carburetor? That's right. Apart from the XR-1000 models, all road models had only one carburetor. And apart from the XR-1000 and the Italian-made single cylinders of the 1960s, whichh had slides, they were all disc-controlled carburetors.

Until when did Harley-Davidson models have carburetors?

Dyna up to model year 2005, Softail, Sportster and Touring models up to 2006. Carburetors disappear from the parts manuals with the following model years. The reason for this is not only that electronically controlled injection allows much more precise fuel metering and finer mixing. A carburetor can also not be "addressed" via the interface of an on-board diagnostic system. On-board diagnostic systems (OBS) have been common in motorcycles since the mid-2000s.
