Custom Type Mount with Two Springs

Custom seat assembly with two springs

Original bikes from Harley-Davidson had a unique selling point for a long time with the suspension of the seats via spring units placed in the frame tube. This was very clean and functional and put the rider somewhat floating above the bike. The English competition relied on two side mounted springs. Of course, with this latter system, functionality depends on how stiff the seat pan is and how stable the mounting in front of the saddle nose is.

Springs on the Custom Solo seat

If you wanted to bring the seat closer to the bike, i.e. closer to the frame, and thus change the look, the only option was to place a seat with a radically reduced base plate between the tank and the rear mudguard and - for a minimum of comfort - support it with two short springs. If the springs were only loosely fitted on welded or screwed pins, it was also possible to quickly remove the seat and thus access the oil tank dipstick or the minimal electrics. W&W Cycles' selection of springs, brackets, struts, etc. is committed to this basic idea. The selection consists of parts from Bates, Biltwell and LeBeeF, in a wide variety of designs and finishes.
