Seat assembly with saddle Ts and spring units (as original).

Except for the very early years up to 1911, the seats and suspension saddles on Harley-Davidson singles and twins intended for normal riders were mounted with a combination of saddle T and suspension unit housed in the central frame tube until the 1980s. The bracket, or saddle T as some say, and suspension unit were equipped with hinge joints. Of course, regular lubrication was required at the joints, but as long as the owner of the Harley took care of it and also kept an eye on the play in the joints, this was a design that was both sturdy and worked well. The many years of use by the Motor Co. proves this.
