Special Tools for Tasks on Manifolds and Carburetors

Luckily, all carburetors that ever have been in use on Harley-Davidson motorcycles — Schebler, Linkert, Tillotson, Bendix and Keihin — can be dismantled without the use of special tools. Screw drivers and a few sockets will do.

So, Why Does W&W Cycles offer Special Tools by The Cyclery for Carburetors?

The union nuts on the intake manifolds are often a problem, especially on older Harleys. So if you don't want to attack the hexagon union nuts on flatheads of various displacements, knuckleheads and panheads with a pliers wrench, you will find open-end wrenches of the right dimensions here. The leak detector can be used to check whether the connection that has just been tightened is tight. Instead of screwing on the carburetor, plug in the compressed air line and spray penetrating oil onto the connection. If there is no hissing or bubbling anywhere, everything is ok.

You can change all jets on S&S carburetors with the appropriate screwdriver. However, it is much easier to change the main jet with the main jet wrench, especially on test rides.

The union flanges of Evo and Twin Cam intake manifolds are fastened with hexagon socket screws. Actually a really good thing, if only you could get to all four equally well. You can get a lot further with a long hexagon socket bit with a ball head - or of course with a cranked Allen key — cranked at the right angle.
