Gaskets for Brakes

Seals for brake components

Let's tick off the drum brakes right away, they don't actually need any seals. Except for the brake base plates of the Big Twins with Springer fork. On all U-models, Knuckleheads and the 1948 Panhead, this brake base plate is mounted on a floating bush. This is necessary for the fork to function correctly. And it is precisely on these models that the bushing is sealed to the outside left with a cork ring.

Brakes with a hydraulic medium rely on seals. We distinguish between sealing washers for the brake line connections and so-called olive seals for the tightness of the lines proper to their connections. In the front and rear brake calipers, dust lips keep coarse dirt from the sensitive surfaces and ring seals seal the pistons. On brake cylinders, seals under the refill caps keep the brake fluid inside and water and dirt largely outside. In the brake cylinders, seals on the hydraulic pistons ensure the correct pressure. These seals are part of the repair kits, which are listed under the respective brakes and fittings.
