Seals for starter motors and alternators

Electrical systems with its power lines and the like tend to have fewer seals, if any at all, as essential parts are mostly simply potted. Electromechanical parts such as starter motors and DC alternators have bearings and carbon brushes that can seize up in their guides, so these components need protection from oil and moisture. Paper gaskets, grease-soaked felt rings and shaft seals are the parts that Harley used to solve the problem: on the D and V models, Knuckle and Panhead, Sportster and Electra Glide.
