Canisters, Vessels and Funnels
Containers for chemical products: Canisters, cans and funnels
If you're wrenching regularly, you also need canisters and containers for the oils that you drain before tinkering or the gasoline that you reuse afterwards. You also need small containers such as grease guns and oil cans for things that you buy in larger containers but are only practical to handle in small batches. While easily contaminated fluids such as brake fluid or fresh engine and transmission oil are perhaps better stored in the original container, a separate container is a good idea for used materials or freshly tapped fuel from the gas station. Filling aids such as funnels, on the other hand, are best purchased separately anyway. And yes: do not forget to label all these canisters. Who wants to take a guessing sniff every time for just being sure what's in there or what was in there last time? Don’t mix up stuff, that’s not a good idea.
Should I prefer plastic or metal?
Well, for on-the-road use with your Harley-Davidson, plastic will probably be the material of choice for weight reasons. In your domestic workshop or garage you probably may want to use metal containers. And some of the little helpers we offer are so tricky that plastic is the only option, because metal would be complicated and costly.
What is the shelf life of engine oil in a container?
In principle, unlimited, but as already mentioned, it's best to be kept in the original container, where you screw the original lid back on properly after use.
