Sealing
Gaskets that come out of a tube or a can
There are spots on the Harley-Davidson where no gasket or sealing ring can be used for sealing. So this is where chemistry comes to the rescue: with liquid gaskets in a variety of forms, curing, non-curing, silicone-based, or as a solid in the form of sticks or sealing tape. The places where chemistry is used are just as varied: on threads and connections, under thermal stress in exhaust systems, or when it comes to precisely maintained clearances, such as on engine housings, where sealing adhesives only form a wafer-thin layer. Electrical connections are also grateful for sealing and protection against rain and dirt. Last but not least, there are the tanks, which tend to leak after a long service thanks to the highly valued vitality of our V-twins. Here, too, modern chemistry prevents this in the form of an internal coating that also prevents minor leaks. (Smaller ones, mind you…)
