Harley-Davidson Springer forks — the classic ones used on Knuckleheads and 45 cuin models as well as the Concours forks from The Cyclery — feature a hollow steering stem. This is where the threaded rod of the stock steering damper is installed. But what if the steering damper is not present or not desired? Installing these acorn nuts from Colony at least eliminates the need to deal with the open hole in the steering head.
On the underside, the nuts are fitted with a shoulder that ensures the steering stem is properly centered in the central casting of the handlebar or the top clamp.
The version for Big Twins with a 1”-24 thread also fits Hydra Glide and Electra Glide forks whose upper triple clamps are drilled accordingly. In this application, the OEM lock plate 45717-63 is not used.
