On older Harley-Davidson motorcycles, one may spot springer forks where the tubes do not sit flush with the top triple tree or the central handlebar casting. Not only does this look untidy, indeed the clamping of the tubes in the triple tree is less than optimal.
The solution to this issue — which can occur on all Knucklehead and Panhead models regardless of year — is a turned-down, i.e. shorter, steering stem nut.
