Wiring a Harley-Davidson
Due to the various electrical components which are installed in different places on your Harley (obvious: taillight and headlight) you need wires to transport the power to the consumers. The LED taillight with built-in battery and USB connection has not yet been invented.
To offer the current as little resistance as possible, you need wires of different cross sections adapted to the transmitted power. Of course, you could wire the whole Harley with - let's say - 2.5 mm2 wires, but copper is expensive and heavy. The difference between 2.5 mm2 and 1 mm2 wires is 60% less weight and material. That's where the purchasing department quickly starts to wonder. And if the thinner wire is enough to carry 5 W to the tail light, the case is clear.
Wires can be soldered on, but separable connections make more sense. Eyes and plugs, connectors, connectors and a few fixed points where wires branch. It makes sense to attach these branches to the frame, nicely insulated with Bakelite.
Vibration not only shakes bulbs, it also damages the wire connection. It becomes brittle, it corrodes, problems are inevitable. That's why wires are fastened to the frame or special terminals, in the past with leather straps or spring clips, but today with wire ties made of plastic or stainless steel, or special eyelets with clips.
