Loctite Tread Locker and Adhesives
In the early 1950s, US chemist Vernon Krieble discovered an adhesive that, at first glance, appeared to have no real use. However, when it came into contact with metals and was closed off from air, the substance cured in a matter of minutes. And there it was: the idea of developing a reliable screw locking system based on this technology. One that was chemically based, easy to use and fatigue resistant. Quite unlike the lock washers and star washers commonly used at the time, which kept failing. And finally, the idea led to the creation of a start-up called American Sealants Company, which in 1963 became the Loctite Corporation.
