Handlebars for models with Hydra Glide fork

In 1949, together with the hydraulic front fork came a new handlebar mounting: the handlebar installs with separate brackets, rubber-mounted and insulated from vibration. The first were one-piece with reinforced center, then came two-piece, where the handlebar clamps ("risers") are also the connecting piece. Both a yield clean appearance with good looks. The mechanic must be careful with the twist grips: the 1949-1953 and 1954-1974 versions are not compatible. As with the Springer fork, both have the same innards mounted on the left and right. I.e. that when twisting the handle (towards the driver) the wire for the ignition adjustment is pulled, but the wire for the throttle (original!) is always pushed. In case you need the throttle cable or "throttle wire" to pull (as for most later style carburetors), there are corresponding grip spirals as accessories. As with all original Harley handlebars up to 1973, the electrical cables are routed inside the handlebars. The handlebars are drilled accordingly and there are also threads for the switches.

How do I find the right handlebar for my year of manufacture?

As always, a look at the parts manual will help. Using the part number from the manual, you look for the handlebar in our store. Using the search function, the part number beams you directly to the part. For all cases, there is still the model assignment in the store. The matching "innards" for cables and grips you can find in the "Grips" section.
