Special Tools for Valve Lifters and Push Rods

On Harleys, the valve clearance is set on the tappets. The inch size open-end wrenches found in every usual toolbox are sufficient for this. The pushrod sleeves can be collapsed quite easily on OHV engines: Push the center sleeve down against the spring pressure and remove the tensioning clip. With sidevalve engines, however, you need special wrenches from The Cyclery to release the pushrod tubes. The Cyclery offers accurate reproductions of the classic wrenches designed by the factory for service work.

Tappet guides of sidevalves are often a bit unruly, eluding repair attents due to stubborn sticking in the engine case. But we've got you covered there, too. Tappet guide pullers are screwed onto the guide and then simply pulled out from the case using the puller spindle and the tappet as an abutment.
