Coil springs for front forks

The fork spring supports and absorbs shocks on the front wheel. In addition to the long support spring above the fork damper inside the tube, there are also smaller rebound springs which absorb the movement of the damper piston when the fork is released.

Adjusting and changing fork springs

The operation of the fork spring is influenced not only by variables such as length, number of coils and wire thickness, but also by the preload with which the spring is installed. The preload can be used to determine how finely the spring responds and how deeply the tubes of the Harley dip when at rest and while riding. Both of these factors also influence handling. The spring preload can be adjusted via sleeves between the spring and the fork tube bolt.

Shorter fork springs can also be used to lower the front end of your Sportster,Softail or Dyna. Of course, you have to keep in mind that lowering by means shorter fork springs, just as ist is with shorter tubes, rdeuces ground clearance and shortens the caster if no other measures are taken. Both can have a positive effect on turning into tight corners, but may have a negative effect on directional stability.
