With a base area of 104 x 70 mm and the option of installing them at an angle, these batteries are ideal for installation in a horseshoe oil tank or for space-saving custom projects. The low capacity and CCA below 100 do not allow for electric starts, but that's not part of the job in a classic Harley anyway. For kicking and as a buffer at low speeds (in city traffic, at traffic lights), the power is more than sufficient.
The Yuasa YTX series AGM batteries are delivered “wet-charged”: filled and charged at the factory, the acid is bound in special glass fiber mats. So no fiddling with acid packs and completely leak-proof. Just ready to go.
The YTX5L with 4 Ah capacity is more suitable for kickstart bikes with a few extras: auxiliary headlights, loud and power-guzzling horns, that kind of thing.

Yuasa YTX Batteries
Like all lead-acid batteries, the YUASA YTX series contains acid. However, the acid is bound in glass fiber mats between the lead plates. This makes the battery spill-proof and maintenance-free. Should the battery start to gas, for example because the regulator is charging too heavily, a built-in safety valve ensures that it does not burst. The formation of lead sulphate during long periods of inactivity is largely prevented by special additives. Calcium mixing in the plates additionally reduces the self-discharge.
Because of the small capacity of 3 or 4 Ah and because not much electricity is consumed when kicking, the batteries are recharged very quickly. Therefore, we recommend using controllers that adhere to the printed long-term charging currents of less than 0.5 A and the maximum voltage of 14.7 V. We have measured and found in extensive test series that our Cycle Electric regulators most reliably comply with the limit values. BUT: you have to drive with your lights on. The power consumption of e.g. an H4 bulb helps to keep the voltage constant. The regulator needs this ~5A consumption, otherwise the voltage rises to over 15 V even with the high-quality CE regulators.
If you do need to recharge, the charger should also adhere to these limits. Modern chargers with microcontrollers, such as those from Optimate, have a special AGM charging mode.
