Our reproductions of the original Harley-Davidson generators from 1958→ feature unparalleled craftsmanship. In these Harley-Davidson generator replicas, for example, the connections between the armature winding and the commutator are spot-welded instead of soldered, which significantly increases durability. The insulation of the armature fields is made from hard maple wood rather than paper, further enhancing quality and longevity. You can rely 100% on these Harley generators, no matter how far the road takes you. They are perfect for restoring Harley-Davidson vintage bikes, custom bikes, classic motorcycles, and Harley classic bikes.

This custom generator comes with an integrated regulator, eliminating the need for a separate regulator, regulator bracket, and wiring. This results in a much cleaner appearance and simplifies installation.

The generator housings have 4 mounting holes instead of 2 for the bearing support plate, allowing the cooling fins of the regulator to be aligned either parallel to the road or parallel to the cylinder cooling fins. This improves cooling and extends the lifespan of the generator.

This special edition brings a stock-like vintage look to your generator. Cycle Electric is now producing Mattias "Le Beef" Andersson's hand polished cast prototype in a limited run. State of the art technology meets Le Beef's inimitable style.

Low Voltage Regulators

Low voltage regulators have a max charging voltage of 13,8 V instead of the usual 14,5 V. There are cases, where the lower charge voltage is advisable: e.g. when the battery sits in the oil tank, as in Softails, where overheating of the battery has been known during hot weather, or when a 6 V to 12 V conversion places the 12 V battery inside the oil tank, where overheating of the battery also may be a problem.

Also, when using a modern lithium ion battery, the maximum charge voltage is 14,6 V. The stock regulator cut off voltage of 14,5 V sits right on this limit. Using a low voltage regulator positively avoids damage to the battery. If you are unsure about which regulator type to choose, contact our service team, they'll be happy to sort you out.

Generator Gears 32E

Generator Gears 32E

The drive gears of Harley-Davidson type 32E generators with three brushes are mounted on the armature shaft with four keyways. They are secured with a cotter pin. Type 32E generators were used until 1957. Gear backlash is adjusted by means of shims of varying thickness between the generator and the engine case.

Generator Gears 58/65A

Generator Gears 58/65A

The drive gears of the two-brush generators used on Harley-Davidson V-twin models from 1958 onward are secured with a nut. In addition to being positively located on the shaft, this design also transfers the drive force via the oil slinger to the right armature bearing.

Generator Oil Deflectors 58/65A

Just as on the earlier three-brush generators used on Harley-Davidson Twin models, the later two-brush generator fitted to Panhead, Sportster, and early Shovel engines also uses an oil deflector to prevent oil from working its way past the bearing and seal into the interior of the generator. Oil-soaked brushes and commutators not only stop the charging system from working properly, they usually make a generator overhaul necessary as well.
