Harley-Davidson 1915-1929 Pocket Valve Big Twins - Identification and Restoration Guide
Harley-Davidson 1915-1929 Pocket Valve Big Twins - Identification and Restoration Guide
Written by the British author and renowed Vintage and Classic harley Davidson specialist, Steve Slocombe, this is the first book about these models, starting with the three speed machines introduced in 1915 and finishing with the Two Cam race machines in 1928/29 which ended the line. The book is in three parts: first the business enviroment in which co-founder William S. Harley worked as Chief Engineer. Then full page pictures of stunning restored and unrestored machines for each year, followed by detailed treatment of each assembly such as forks, gearboxes, tanks and frames so that you can see what you are buying on-line or at the swap meet. The book benefits from numerous, expert contributions by members of the Antique Motorcycle Club of America (AMCA).

Exotic Harley-Davidson VL Gearboxes - Restoring the 1936 4-speed Gearbox and the 1931-1936 Reverse Gearbox
Exotic Harley-Davidson VL Gearboxes - Restoring the 1936 4-speed Gearbox and the 1931-1936 Reverse Gearbox
This book gives an engineering overview of the 1931-1936 reverse and 1936 4-speed transmissions used on the Harley-Davidson VL Big Twin flathead motorcycle. The 1936 gearbox was the first constant mesh 4-speed for a Harley Big Twin, pre dating the similar and long lived Knucklehead box by a few months. Overhaul procedures are then given for the two geearboxes, with complete parts lists and prices from the 1939 parts book and the present day. It is concluded that the maket value of the reverse transmissions does not yet reflect the cost of a good restoration, while the demand for the 4-speed is such that the present day reproduction of spare parts can be justified.

Manuals

Freely adapted from Albert Einstein: You don't have to know everything. You just have to know where to look it up. If you want to work on your Harley, you will find the information you need in a whole host of manuals. Our selection includes restoration manuals by specialists such as Steve Slocombe and Bruce Palmer, in which everything is described down to the last screw, repair manuals and factory owners' guides, in which the steps are described in detail and relevant measurements are listed. Naturally, most of the books presented are in English. If you don't want to experience any unpleasant surprises when screwing things together, check the repair manual in advance. These are available for most models, from the change-geared models of the 1910s to Flatheads, Knuckleheads, Panheads and Sportsters through to the latest Dynas, Softails and Tourers.
