Most period Bobbers and many stock bikes had them: Flanders handlebars with matched risers and fork clamps. When they were introduced in the 1940’s the cool look and the resulting superb riding position made them an instant success. These risers (product design by Mark van der Kwaak / dbbp) are great reproductions of the legendary originals and show the manufacturer’s care and attention to details, underlined by the hex head clamping bolts. The offset clamps are sandwiched between Delrin rings to absorb vibration and still firmly hold the handlebars.

In the heyday of Springer forks, i.e. the 1940’s and 50’s, the inward tilted risers and matching clamps made by Stelling & Hellings were the hot ticket. Just the right parts to stand out in a crowd of Knuckleheads and Flatheads. Today original ones are nearly impossible to find so these perfect reproductions really fill a gap for dressed-up classics. After the USA entered the Second World War in 1941, the WPB ("War Production Board") was to allocate resources wisely, so that an effective armaments production could be established and maintained. Saving rubber was one of those tasks, which is why these hard plastic grips were part of the factory equipment from 1942-1946 and were optional in 1947-1948. However, they also fit models down to 1935 as well as up to 1973.

Back in the Forties and Fifties Chicago Motorcycle Supply (CMS) was one of the leading manufacturers of aftermarket accessories for American motorcycles. These hard-plastic grip sets are still made on the original moulds and make for that perfect "period piece".

The story goes like this: when the weather is nice you enjoy the breeze in your face and when it turns bad you wish you had some protection. So what can you do?
