Carburetor, Manifold and Air Cleaner Mounts

Mounting and assembly parts

Parts to attach the carburetor and the air cleaner: with clamps and O-rings or rubber band on the cylinder heads, with flanges and union nuts on the (side valve) cylinders, with supports on the engine housing.

The beloved life expressions of the V-twins

from Milwaukee cause the carburetor and air filter to vibrate and sometimes become loose. This is not really conducive to their function. This is why you can already see in photos from the mid-1920s that the carburetors (at that time only with intake funnels instead of air filters) are supported with a special clamp between the cooling fins of the cylinders. With the introduction of side valves, there were central supports for the float chamber on the central engine housing screw. The final consequence of all these mounting measures are the air filter boxes of the Evolution models and their successors, which are attached directly to the cylinder heads.

What happens if the carburetor is not supported?

The vibrations of the engine cause the float chamber and the jets to malfunction. The engine can suck in secondary air, causing the mixture to become lean. To ensure the smooth operation of accessory carburetors and air filters, there is a whole range of holders, clamps etc. from Bates or The Gasbox.
