The Cyclery Gas and Oil Tanks for IOE Models 1925-1929
The Cyclery Gas and Oil Tanks for IOE Models 1925-1929
Reproductions of classic gasoline and oil tank combinations for early Harley-Davidson models – manufactured with the same attention to detail as over 100 years ago. These replica tanks are not mass-produced, but are still made using traditional craftsmanship. Most components are joined together using soft soldering, just like in the old days. This proven technique was used on the original tanks and has stood the test of time for this tank combination – even if it is not comparable to the modern welding processes used on current motorcycle tanks.
Each vintage tank comes complete with all standard brass fittings, brackets, and mounting points – just like the original. Ideal for the authentic restoration of Harley-Davidson vintage bikes or classic-style custom projects.
If you are looking for a faithful Harley-Davidson replica tank that remains true to the original in both appearance and function, you have come to the right place.
Due to the new frame introduced in 1925, the tanks had a more teardrop shape than their predecessors. Rounded at the front and tapering towards the rear, this is how you can recognize a tank, nay, the gasoline-oil tank combination for the 1925 F models and the J models from 1925 to 1929.

Combined gas and oil tanks for F, J and V model series

The right side of the tank contains the fuel, the left side is divided into the reserve fuel tank and the engine oil. The oil compartment also contains the manual pump used to supply additional oil to the crankcase on particularly demanding sections of the route.

Not welded or brazed, "just" soldered

The tanks are soldered using the soft-soldering method, i.e. with lead/tin as the solder. In our days, this process may make you raise an eyebrow, but at least until the 1940s this was just standard. Ernst “Klacks” Leverkus, who is legendary in the German-speaking world, still describes it as an adequate and solid repair method in the 1960s, which, when used correctly by a careful locksmith, can be practiced even far away from any (Harley) workshop. The low melting temperature of soft solder does not put as much strain on the sheet metal and there is also much less distortion.
