Split type fuel tanks for 4-speed Big Twins 1936-1984

Two tabs are welded on at the top and bottom of the front section. The screws that go through these tabs need the appropriate counter support on the frame. In addition, each half of the tank has a welded thread about eight inches from the rear end, where another mounting screw is attached that goes through the bracket of the saddle T-bracket. The insides of the tanks are shaped so that they fit into the spaces between the frame tubes.

Take off split tanks

The two sides of the tank are connected below the frame neck by a piece of hose. Before removing the tank, the tank must be drained to avoid major spills. An alternative to pumping out is, of course, a connecting line with quick-release coupling.

Single-piece gas tanks, FX style

The first FX models in 1971 and 1972 also had the tanks from the FLH. To differentiate the model series, the 1973 FX was given a one-piece tank whose shape and curvature was reminiscent of the first Sportster tanks. The tank tunnel was shaped in such a way that the tank fitted a 4-speed frame with a seat cross holder and cast dashboard mount without cutting off any part or bracket. The tank was hooked in at the front behind the steering head, centered on an enormous rubber block and held at the rear by a spring. Original FX tanks are very rare, especially in good condition. Our Quickbob tanks make use of this extremely well-thought-out mounting system and also have a few liters more capacity than the originals. Fuel spill during removal is avoided by the design. If you're fed up with the rigid bracket breaks of the split tanks, here is your vibration-resistant alternative. The only thing you will have to forego is a dashboard with a Fatbob speedometer.
