for Singles and 45”/750cc →1936
Combined gas and oil tanks for singles and 750es up to 1936
The new Single models of 1926 were in many ways the inspiration for the later 45” twins: lighter frames, shorter primary covers and more attractive tanks. In fact, they even use the same tanks, with some changes depending on the year of manufacture. The spare part numbers are the same.
Just gas on the right side, gas and oil on the left side
The right side of the tank contains the fuel, the left side is divided into reserve petrol and engine oil. The manual pump for injecting additional oil into the crankcase on particularly demanding sections of the route is also located in the oil compartment.
Tin-lead-soldered
These tanks are also soft-soldered, i.e. with lead/tin as solder. Nowadays rather unknown, soft-soldered tanks were common practice at least until the 1940s. The legendary Ernst “Klacks” Leverkus still describes soft soldering as an adequate and solid repair method in the 60s. The lower melting temperature of soft solder puts less strain on the thin metal and there is much less warpage.
