Panhead Parts

When the Motor Company introduced its latest ohv Big Twin engine in 1948, almost immediately nicknamed Panhead for obvious reason, it was accepted enthusiastically by all H-D aficionados until its production end in 1965. However, it started a second and probably more important career in 1969 when it starred in the cult movie Easy Rider as the powerplant of Dennis Hopper’s and Peter Fonda’s choppers. The rest is history.

Cannonball Victory H Cam Panhead and Early Shovelhead
Cannonball Victory H Cam Panhead and Early Shovelhead
After the successful introduction of the FLH Super Sport Solo Panhead in 1955, the factory felt that its high compression motor needed a special cam to deliver the full potential, or Z-O-O-M in Milwaukee speak. So for the following model year the FLH received a performance cam, called "Victory" or "H" cam. The works magazine "The Enthusiast" claimed a significant increase of 12% in horsepower and torque over the FL models that would make the motorcycle "take off like a guided missile". As a unique feature the H cam has different intake lobe profiles for the front and rear cylinder (see chart). This was done by the MoCo to even-out the fuel distribution and the power between the front and rear cylinders. The Cannonball reproduction of the Victory cam is precisely manufactured, with measurements and specs taken from a perfect original example.
