Why do oil filters for Harleys need a separate bracket?

The air-cooled V-twin and single-cylinder engines from Harley-Davidson have a different oil circuit from the competing brands from the Far East, Italy or Germany. On those bikes, the engine oil is filtered on its way from the oil pump to the engine. On Harleys, a second pump chamber is used to return the engine oil to the oil tank after it has passed through the engine. To avoid having to completely redesign the engines, the first oil filters were therefore installed in the return line to the oil tank. The oil takes the dirt and combustion residues out of the engine with it. The grime is filtered out in the filter on its way to the oil tank, and only the filtered, clean oil is stored in the oil tank.
