These are the wheels to replace the worn or missing stock part on your 45”/750cc Flathead. They look close to the factory equipment of the era with black hub and cad (ZnNi) steel spokes. The hub’s internals are also stock so your original axles will fit. The rim has the correct Kelsey-Hayes (KHW) stamping.

These spoked wheels replace missing or worn original parts on classic Harley-Davidson motorcycles, specifically Knucklehead, Flathead, and Panhead models. Each Harley spoked wheel is precisely manufactured to original dimensions and meets the OEM specifications of the respective series.
The wheels are designed for the following models and years:
E(L)/F(LH) 1936–1966, U(LH) 1937–1948 (front and rear), and W(L) 1937–1952 (rear only). Production according to original specifications ensures correct hub width, rim height, offset, and the proper hole pattern. Spoke gauge and tension also meet the technical requirements of the factory setup, guaranteeing stable and precise wheel alignment.
In the original configuration, Harley rims and hubs were black with cadmium-plated spokes. Alternatively, the spoked wheels are also available fully chrome-plated, providing an aesthetically appealing yet technically identical option.
All spoked wheels are compatible with stock Harley brake drums, rim brakes, and axle dimensions of the respective years. They are ideal for authentic restoration or as high-quality replacements for vintage Harley E-, F-, U-, and W-series models. As a small concession to modern times, industrially manufactured needle bearings are used instead of the original roller bearings.

As a result, original axles do not fit, as they do not support the left-hand bearing.

These complete spoke wheels by Bates are equipped with particularly light flanged aluminum rims and hamburger drum brakes as originally mounted on XL 1964-1972 and early Super Glides. Ideal for restoration projects, but they also cut a fine figure on classic choppers and other custom bikes.

On star hubs the brake drum is fixed by five lug bolts to the hub flange. The brake drum must not touch the spoke flange on the hub. The cast brake drums will break — especially when it is distorted by tightening the bolts. Manufacturing tolerances (aftermarket brake drums and hubs) can cause the drum to touch the hub. Before you tighten down the lug bolts, you will want to check for sufficient brake-drum to spoke flange gap and — if not present — use one of these shims.

These bushings come in handy when attaching front brake rotors to rear wheel hubs with 3/8” and 7/16” flange holes. They reduce the ID to 5/16” or 3/8” so your rotor bolts are well centered.

When working with a 17 mm wheel axle in a 19 mm environment these reducer bushings are very useful. Can be inserted in wheel bearings, Springer fork rockers, chain tensioners, etc.

In order to function properly, the brake base plate on which the brake shoes are mounted must not touch the brake drum. If, during wheel installation, it is found that the drum is rubbing against the base plate, the base plate must be moved outwards using these spacer washers on the axle sleeve.
