for Gas Tanks

Special tools for gas tanks

To remove or install the fuel tank you will need standard tools: open wrenches, sockets, a ratchet. The same holds true for the petcock. To seal your tanks, you'll want rather special equipment: compressed air, tubs where to submerge your tanks, soldering and welding equipment.

One job however is only accomplished by a special tool: aligning the petcock threads on 1940-1965 gas tanks. To save the driver any fiddling around underneath the tank, there was an actuating rod that went straight through the tank from the top to the bottom. On top of this rod there was a knob, the bottom end of the rod was the valve. The rod guides on the tank top and bottom were screwed to the tank, and the threads for this task had and have to be carefully aligned by a special tool kit that is available here at W&W Cycles.
