Engines with a leaking intake manifold are difficult to kick-start and rarely run properly. This manifold leak tester from The Cyclery allows the intake system to be checked quickly and reliably for leaks.
The leak tester is installed on the intake manifold together with the original gasket. Slowly turn the engine until both intake valves are closed. Depending on the version, compressed air is supplied via the G 1/4" connection or the integrated tire valve. Apply approximately 10 psi (approx. 0.5 bar) of pressure to the intake system. The universal version can be pressurized using a standard bicycle pump or a suitably regulated compressor.
Spray some soapy water onto the sealing surfaces and the connections at the cylinder heads. Any leaks will immediately show up as bubbles. If necessary, readjust the clamps and repeat the test until the intake system is sealed. Then install the carburetor – done.
