Cylinder set »Ricardo Racing« by The Cyclery

Item №
64-074

These special Ricardo straight fin type racing cylinders feature large cylinder flanges for later 1924-1929 crankcases. To enhance performance they have both intake and exhaust ports machined for the larger 74” nipples and they accept special intake housings (= 61” style OD and 74” style height) for improved flow. Bore is stock with 3-5/16” bore for 61 cui./1000 cc displacement.

Exhaust valve seats are unmachined.

Cylinders which are not offered as complete kits, i.e. with pistons and rings, are not finish honed. This job must be performed in a qualified workshop.

  • cast iron, cast finish
  • nominal bore: 3-5/16 ”
  • Australia
  • gross weight: 20 kg

Harry Ricardo

Presumably in the year 1915 the Factory hired Englishman Harry Ricardo to improve the performance of the then new 8-valve overhead race bikes. Harry was the leading freelance theorist and practitioner in the young science of cylinder head flow physics. His work immediately proved successful with important race victories in the following year. This consequently led to numerous fruitful cooperations between Mr. Ricardo and Harley-Davidson, which were extended to IOE and sidevalve engines, too.
