Relays OEM Replacement

Original replacement relay

Harley-Davidson electrics are rather "frugal" until the 1960s. Breaker contact, headlight, taillight, that's it. Everything else is an accessory: Auxiliary headlights, turn signals, etc. The contacts in the switches were generously dimensioned and robust and the complete electrical system functioned with 6 V voltage.

So why relays?

With the electric starter in 1964 on the Servi-Car 12 V arrived, together with the first relays. Even under 12 V voltage, a starter motor draws immense currents. The button on the handlebar can't cope with that. By the way, these first relays were called solenoids at Harley-Davidson. But they had no engagement function like the second generation of solenoid switches that were used with the Prestolite starters from 1966.

For a long time, the starter relay was the only one in the wiring harness of a Harley-Davidson, until the first fuel injection systems appeared from 1995 on - and more relays.

We offer the matching original replacement relays in OEM quality with screw-on or spade type contacts, as used in the FX and FLHs, Dynas, Sportsters, V-Rods, Buell. For your reference we have the OEM number, the terminal designations and a wiring diagram.
