Loading and lashing
Taking the Harley-Davidson flattracker to the racetrack or bringing the newly purchased but license plate-less Panhead home? Without a license for the bike, this is difficult without a trailer or van. After loading, the Harley is of course lashed down. Even at home in your garage, if the Harley is to be put on the lifting platform or the lift, most people prefer to secure the bike with lashing straps to the platform or to the corners of the lift. And yes, it would be a shame if the polished, freshly rebuilt and customized Harley were to leave the lift just because the mechanic wanted to save a few minutes of time.
Which lashing tool for which purpose?
Of course, you can heave the newly acquired Panhead - see above - into the van or onto the trailer with three or four strong men. But it is much more convenient and requires less manpower (!) to push it onto the vehicle using a New Age ramp. Once the Panhead is up or in, the lashing begins. 'Cos you don't want to be part of the game when five or six hundredweights of pure metal start to move on their own during emergency braking.
TPB straps are therefore also taboo. We prefer to reserve them for the packsack on the sissy bar or the SpeedFire C.R.A.B - the only plug-and-play luggage solution for the LiveWire. But we digress. So: our PanAm Loadmaster Powertye motorcycle lashing straps are made of sturdy nylon fabric and equipped with a non-slip hand ratchet. We have different versions in our range for individual applications. If there are no anchor points for lashing straps on the trailer, in the van, on the lifting platform, etc., we offer lashing strips and lashing plates from Jungfalk or lashing eyes from Ancra for retrofitting to securely fasten the bike.
How can I secure the Harley?
When securing the motorcycle, make sure that the lashing straps are placed in the right places to prevent damage to the bike and to ensure safety during transportation! The most suitable places are stable frame parts and the triple trees or the points where a fork tube is clamped in the triple tree. To prevent the Harley from freeing itself, tye down the bike and compress the suspension elements at the same time. And after all, it doesn't hurt to stop after some 50 km and check the tension of the straps.
