These hard-chromed reproduction fork tubes match the form and function of the original components used on various classic Harley-Davidson models, such as FL Hydra Glide, Duo Glide, and early FX series. Manufactured to factory specifications, they come ready for installation with OEM-style threads compatible with stock damping units.

The hard chrome finish provides a highly durable and wear-resistant surface. It improves fork response and extends service life — a significant advantage over worn or re-chromed originals, which often lead to oil leaks or imprecise steering behavior.

Before installation, the clearance between fork tube and bushing should be checked to ensure proper fitment and smooth operation — especially important during restorations or when replacing a single tube.

Note: Bushings, springs, and dampers should also be inspected and replaced if necessary. New fork tubes will only perform to their full potential when paired with internal components in good condition.

Perfect for accurate restorations or performance-minded upgrades on classic Harley fork systems — authentic in appearance, modern in quality.

Show-chromed vs. Hard chromed

From the chemist's point of view, chrome is always the same: a kind of metal with a defined hardness and resistance against wear. From this point of view no chrome is harder than any other one. The secrets behind the terms show-chromed and hard chromed are

  • the preparation of the base, which is chromed, and
  • the thickness of the chrome layer.

Show-chrome means a thin layer (up to 1 µm) on a highly polished base. This layer has not the same longevity as the so-called hard chrome, simply due to its lesser thickness.

Hard chroming means applying galvanically a substantially thicker chrome layer on the base. Due to its thickness the finished surface is much more durable and withstands corrosion better than show-chrome.

The ID on the lower side of these fork tubes is 23.5 mm, corresponding to the Sportster and Dyna 1990→ model OEM tubes. You must use the 45361-90 fork stops that have 23 mm OD. Using the older 45463-87 fork stops with 24 mm OD will cause your fork tubes to seize in the lower legs.
