Those who are only familiar with slide carburetors such as Mikuni or Dell'Orto will have a new experience with a Linkert on Harley models such as Knucklehead, Panhead, or Flathead: The throttle lever is not pulled, but pushed with a rigid wire. Modern custom throttle grips, on the other hand, work by pulling.
The Bates Throttle Conversion Kit makes it possible to combine pull-type throttle cables with Linkert carburetors. It relocates the pivot point so that the throttle cable is at the optimum angle. The throttle valve then closes automatically by means of a spring.
The kit fits all Linkert M-series carburetors with lever types from 1949–1965 (OEM 27260-49 or WW 65-265). Some adjustment may be necessary for accessory intake manifolds and clamps. Barnett throttle cables are recommended because of their excellent running characteristics.

The installation of a a CV carburetor with Custom air cleaner on a Panhead, Shovelhead or Ironhead Sportster involves two problems:
the protruding upper carb end interferes with the commonly flat backing plates of accessory air cleaners, omission of the stock CV air cleaner results in an unsupported carburetor,
This smart kit inludes a 3 mm spacer plate, which resolves the first problem and a flange adapter with two spiral springs to connect spacer and plate and thus safely hold the carburetor in its rubber flange = resolution of the second problem.
Will fit all motors with 2-bolt Tillotson, Bendix or Keihin (butterfly) manifolds. Installation also requires a 2-bolt flange adapter and a carburetor support bracket, which both need to be purchased separately.

These manifold clamps are cast from brass and precision-machined. The groove for the O-ring is exactly shaped and positioned where it is supposed to be for a perfect seal. Top notch quality! Delivered with a set of classic looking hex head screws.

The choice of Custom air cleaners for Linkert carburetors is limited to say the least. Running an S&S Super E or G carb on Knuckleheads and Panheads results in the Teardrop air cleaner sticking out pretty far and interfering with your right knee. This low profile version features a shortened cover and a modified base plate which reduces the overall height of the air cleaner assembly by 25 mm. Thus you gain more legroom and the whole air cleaner tucks closer to the engine. Looks good on other models, too.
