The job of intake funnels is not to filter the air, but to collect as much air as possible. However, more air does not automatically mean more fuel, so intake funnels always require the carburetor to be adjusted to prevent a lean mixture. The consequence of a mixture that is too lean is a loss of power or even mechanical damage due to overheating. The Harley engine generates the best power at around 10% excess fuel, i.e. a rich mixture. The unburned fuel then also cools the combustion chamber. Once again, a biker's work is never done!
