Primary Chainguards Big Twins →1936
Primary chain covers made of sheet steel for model years up to 1936
The primary chains of Harleys up to 1936 (model series F and J with IOE Twin, A and B with SV single cylinder, D, R, and V with SV Twin) only had simple covers made of stamped and embossed sheet metal, without sealing. However, due to the fresh oil lubrication without a return pump, the engine oil was not intended to remain in the engine permanently anyway; the primary chain was lubricated via the engine ventilation. The lubricating oil dripping from the primary chain was then distributed in the surrounding area and, of course, on the bike.
As with all pre-war bikes, parts in good condition are rather rare, so The Cyclery has them for us.
