Pinion shaft drive gears for the oil pump. Indicated years refer to the stock application. 1973-1984 gears can be used in 1954-1972 engines If you follow this rule:
- 5 tooth gears on the pinion shaft require 25 tooth oil pump shaft drive gears.
- 6 tooth gears on the pinion shaft require 24 tooth oil pump shaft drive gears.
24/6 oil pump gear combination
The 24/6 gear combination in engines thru 1972 will increase oil volume and pressure to a certain extent but will not cure problems caused by worn oil pumps and/or bushings.
