The complete front brake assembly for Big Twins, WLC and Servicar 1936-57. Great for ground-up bike projects because one part number orders the complete assembly.
Possible assembly fault and brake drum failure.
Some brake drum/wheel hub combinations require one or more spacer shims (front W&W 27-748, rear 27-746) to prevent them from touching the hub’s spoke rim. The brake drum must not touch the hub’s spoke flange. This might result in the drum breaking when tightening lug bolts.

Custom brake drums which feature distinctive circumferential cooling fins. This is not just for the look, because, as we all know, a cooler drum provides better braking performance.
Bates Brake Base Plate Shims
In order to function properly, the brake base plate on which the brake shoes are mounted must not touch the brake drum. If, during wheel installation, it is found that the drum is rubbing against the base plate, the base plate must be moved outwards using these spacer washers on the axle sleeve.
