The classic hubs of Harley-Davidson motorcycles with tapered roller bearings (“Timken bearings”) from the 1970s through the late 1990s feature a centering register with a 50 mm diameter for brake discs and sprockets. The bolt circle for the mounting screws has remained unchanged since 1973: 3-1/4” or 82.55 mm.
For brake discs, belt pulleys, or sprockets that are only available with the inner diameter used on models from 2000 onward (56 mm +), these adapter rings are used to provide proper centering on earlier hubs. They are a snug fit on the hub and in the disc.
Tip: if you’re not sure, bond the rings to the hub register with Loctite.
