When Harley-Davidson introduced the first ohv (overhead valve) twins in 1936, it was a sensation. Only the Crocker bikes were faster then – but also prohibitively expensive. Unlike many imported engines, the Harley ohv engines featured enclosed valve springs. The lubricating oil did not spread onto the riders’ trousers, but was properly drained — recirculating lubrication instead of loss lubrication.
Since the tins covering the valve springs on many Knuckleheads are no longer in the best condition, we offer a selection of replacement parts here: the early version (“Baby Food Jars”) and the later 1938–1947 version, including all small components such as screws, mounting strips, and gaskets.
The reproductions are delivered ready to install, with soldered oil lines.
Installation requires an experienced mechanic.
