Brake Controls →1940

The first generation of Harley brake levers was quite simple in design: slightly bent from and formed from thick sheet metal, they were mounted on all models ordered by the customer with dual brake systems. While the inner band brake was activated by a foot pedal, the hand brake lever was responsible for the outer band brake - also on the rear wheel! - was responsible.

The classic S-shaped curved cast levers, whose shape is cited again by some customizers on modern fittings, came with the front brake in 1928. Until the early 1940s, these levers were standard on Harleys.
