Part 3 - Time Can Be a Friend
To import two vintage American motorcycles for just two weeks into a country that hasn‘t imported American motorcycles since 1960 is a veritable challenge for the ladies and gentlemen of Cuba customs.
We create a minor sensation among the workforce at the airport, and get more attention for our bikes than we bargained for. Top brass personally see to the case of the German guys who „just want to ride around“ a little on Cuban roads on motorcycles that look exactly like those that are here already. As a competent government official you must takethis seriously.
We manage to view the procedure as a kick start into the Cuban way of life and kill time by populating the rear seat and sidehack of Sergio‘s and Ernesto‘s Flat- and Panheads. The annual Concentración de Harlistas Cubanos in the seaside town of Varadero won‘t wait. We expect a first glimpse of Cuba‘s Harleydom and can maybe snap some photographs for later use in our catalog. We‘re not to be disappointed.
