Slash Cut / Turn Out

Slash Cut and Turn Out

Look similar, but are not quite the same. With a slash cut, the straight tube ends in a slanted cut, like sausage at the local butcher. You sometimes hear or read the term balooney cut for it, a corruption of the word Bologna cut, i.e. "Lyonnais cut" in the somewhat bland German translation. In any case, the angled cut enlarges the exit area of the gases and has an acoustic effect.

Turn outs have an arc in front of the cut, so the cut causes less enlargement of the exit area. The sound is only directed more towards the side of the road. Ultimately, as always, it is mainly a question of style as to what you prefer.
