Transmission Sprockets OEM Replacement
Stock transmission sprockets
The sprockets that fit the transmission output shafts of Harley-Davidson motorcycles are as diverse as the shafts and maindrives themselves. The shape and dimensions of the center splines and also the lateral offset ("dish") differ. The safest bet is therefore to compare the information that is given in our web-catalog and the photos rather twice before ordering. This way you are sure to find the right sprocket in our selection of PBI and standard parts.
How to check the transmission sprocket and how to replace it.
Owners of smaller displacement Harleys are lucky: on the singles (model codes A, B, C), 750s (model codes D, G, R, W), K-models and Sportsters (model codes XL), the gear drive sits on the right engine side under a cover. Remove the cover and you're ready to go.
For all other air-cooled 4-stroke models (model codes E, F, J, U, V), the primary cover and clutch must be removed in order to check and replace the chain sprocket on the transmission. The chain line runs between the primary transmission and the gear box. Unfortunately, this increased effort is one reason why the necessary checks are rather rarely carried out. But at the latest when the sprocket has shark teeth, one can't avoid the replacement anymore.
