Even though most Harleys since 1915 had 530 sprockets, these differ quite one from the another and therefore aren't not always interchangeable. There are several groups or types. The first group includes all sprockets that have eight splines in the center. They are fastened to the hub with a big special groove nut. A second type consists in the sprockets that are riveted onto the brake drum. Finally, the third group has a 2” or 2.225” center hole and five bolt holes on a uniform pitch circle diameter of 3.25”. In addition to the number of teeth, the sprockets within their types also differ in terms of offset. So if in doubt, don't just compare the number of teeth, but also check whether the information on the offset (dimensions to be looked up in our shop!) matches the original sprocket that you are going to change. Sometimes a previous owner has built a Sportster sprocket on a Softail or an FXR sprocket on a Sportster, depending on what best suited the available adapters and the chain line when the bike was customized. Because yes, one can customize a Harley just by exchanging stock parts.
