Needle Bearing Marks: C vs CL

The difference is the outer diameter; the CL bearings are 3/100 mm smaller than the ones marked C. The CL bearings are specially ground to size. The Cs are not. That is what makes the difference. The problem is that HD made the bore in which the bearing sits smaller and more precisely fitting in gearboxes from 1982 onwards. If you insert the C bearing into the later housings, they are pressed too tightly and the main drive runs without the necessary play and — it overheats.
