The original sleeveless undershirts of the US military received short sleeves at the beginning of the 20th century, simply for the reason that tattoos and underarm hair would no longer show through white uniform shirts. So, thank you, sailors. Because of you we have an almost universal item of clothing alongside jeans. Cut straight or waisted, usually with short sleeves, plain, patterned or imprinted, the T-shirt has become a standard for more than 100 years, especially among motorcyclists.
