Standard Stators for Sportster Models

Stators for Harley-Davidson four-speed Sportster models from late 1984 onward. What makes these stator windings special is that they are located behind the clutch basket and are activated by permanent magnets bonded into the clutch basket. The weakness of this design lies in the fact that the clutch basket is supported only by a standard single-row ball bearing of size 6009. The weight of the clutch basket and clutch pack causes the basket to wobble when disengaged, so a relatively large air gap and a clutch basket bearing with minimal play are required to prevent the components from damaging each other.
