The new 1200 cc twins from Harley-Davidson introduced in 1930 came with a new internal shoe brake on the rear wheel. On the V models, two strong barrel-shaped tension springs with movable hooks handled the return of the brake shoes. These springs, OEM part number 4050-30, were used until 1957, including on Knucklehead and Panhead models equipped with mechanical rear brakes.
