Bonded brake shoe linings have only been standard on motorcycles since the late 1960s. On Harley-Davidson motorcycles, brake linings were riveted to the shoes until the end of 1972. Bonding can only be done by a specialized company. Riveting, however, can be performed at home by any skilled mechanic with the proper tools, for example from The Cyclery.
