In older Harley-Davidson service manuals, a cotter pin is listed under the specified part number, i.e. a single-use split pin that must be bent over. In the early 2000s, Harley-Davidson itself switched to a reusable spring clip, which they nicknamed the “pretzel clip” due to its shape.
